Numeracy

Numeracy at Kotara School

All students at Kotara School work on numeracy goals that are prescribed in their Personalised Learning Plans. Parents are integral to the Personalised Learning Planning process, and these plans are devised in collaboration with parents, heath care professionals and other key stakeholders in the student’s life.

All student at Kotara School complete numeracy rotation activities that are individualised to their level of academic support need, and are provided with teacher and school learning support officer assistance as required. These activities incorporate all four strands of the Mathematics K-10 syllabus (Number and Algebra, Measurement, Space and Geometry, and Working Mathematically). These units are collabotaovely planned and taught consistently and at the same time across all classes in the school.

Hands on mathematical activities and technology are also incorporated throughout the numeracy program. Students are provided with daily opportunities to explore the real life applications of mathematical concepts at the “Hands On Maths” rotation, and engage with technology through their use of Matific, Google Classroom and SeeSaw.
